I use my mobile phone almost all the time and having internet via WiFi is partly what keeps me so occupied. Not all Symbian phones have WiFi technology, but the Nokia 5530 XM does. The only thing now is what applications to use and for what purposes. There are many applications on the Ovi Store that help in keeping the distance between a desktop and a mobile short, as far as web browsing is concerned. But one always has one’s personal favorites and mine are these.
Opera Mobile/Opera Mini
Everyone is now probably familiar with Opera web browsers. Opera Mobile is the best alternative web browser for Symbian. Many users have switched to Opera because of its speed, its friendly interface, and its new features. Opera mobile opens web pages just like a PC does, while Opera Mini is faster and smaller. Both use the same compression technology found in Opera Browsers.
Most users use both browsers at different situations. For example if you want to open more complex web pages, Opera Mini won’t respond. On the other hand, if you open about 4 tabs in a Symbian 1 device, Memory Full errors are bound to occur, and the app will shut down by itself. This is because Opera Mobile depends on the phone’s ram, making it larger and a bit slower. Opera Mini doesn’t care how many tabs you want to open. Even if you open about 15 tabs, it will run as smoothly as ever, as it uses the Opera web clients to load pages and phone memory does not interfere.
The only thing absent in Opera Mobile and Opera Mini is Flash support. However, Opera has just announced some improvements taking place in the next few months. They mentioned Flash support and many platforms are already on the list. Opera Mini for Android and iOS might also get these updates soon. In my opinion, Opera is the best browser for any phone.

Youtube/Skype/Ebuddy Mobile Messenger
Youtube application is fast. It allows you to watch Youtube videos with quickness and efficiency. Videos load faster and the interface is great. But all the functions in the PC Youtube are not there. There are still some fixes to be made in the app, but if you want to just search for a video and play it, and also see the related videos on the subject, Youtube app is just for you.

Skype is the largest global service for making international calls and video calls. The mobile application for the 5530 can only make calls without video through WiFi to other mobiles, or PCs connected on the internet. The quality is good, and many features from the PC app are there. Skype can be used to make free calls only if the receiver is also online. You can also send text messages. If you use Skype on your PC, this app will come handy.

Chat on MSN, Facebook, Yahoo!, GTalk (Orkut), AIM, MySpace and ICQ with Ebuddy. Ebuddy is the most popular IM app worldwide with millions of users. You can send pictures, smiley faces and chat with online friends on any of the above social networks. Its fast, but the interface is not very good. The D-Pad also comes on the screen as this app is Java based. The icon on the screen is also not good, but Ebuddy does serve its purpose.
